Tend Not Talk

To often in life, we find ourselves boasting about how we do great deeds, or intend on doing great deeds. Most of the time though, we're not doing what we're saying. We make all attempts at making ourselves appear to be great Christians who are living their lives according to the Gospel. My bet is that this is a good 99% of the Christian community. This is a major problem. The solution to this problem is simple though; Shut up, and start doing something with your life. I don't mean going out and getting a job, or mowing your lawn to make it look good. I mean, go out and do something with your life that God would want you to do. Better yet, go around and tend the hearts of those who do not know God, are struggling in their relationship with Him, or even those who claim themselves to be "happy" Christians. Recently in my Biblical readings, I have come across a verse that states the Christians to be the salt of the earth; the preservatives.

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled on by men.

You are the light of the world. A city on the hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Let your light shine, so they can see your good deeds and praise the Father. We're advocating work; not speeches, not sermons, not four-hour weekend workshops. Just work." (Matthew 5:13-16)

Point 1: Do not be ruined, do not lose your saltiness. Do not let corrupting things become of your daily rituals. Instead, do things which glorify God. "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Point 2: Don't do things only for yourself. Be the person who gives light to everyone in the house. Maybe you have to sacrifice to do something good for someone else, but this is what God would want. Put others before you. (Especially those who you may not love as much as your friends or family. Believe it or not, they need it the most).

Point 3: Speak the light, the truth, and the way of the Lord. Bring all honor and glory to Him through everything you say. Preach His word to the homeless man sitting on the corner, or to the atheist whom you fear talking to.

Point 4: Live what you preach. Tim Tebow is an excellent example of a man who practices what he preaches. Do not be the person who gives guidance and then follows it by going out and getting drunk. Follow what you say, follow the Bible.

Point 5: Spread the love of Christ to all. "Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth" (1 John 3:18).

Take a stand in your life now and start making a difference in other peoples lives. Be strong, pray, and make it your goal to show God's love to as many people as possible over the next few months. I guarantee it will be rewarded. Matthew got it. John got it. Get up and do something. I don't care what it is. Just take some action. The rule should be, " Do anything short of sin."

Take Care,
Patrick
